Why Do I Feel So Stuck?
Feeling stuck can feel overwhelming and confusing. Therapy offers space to understand patterns, build clarity, and begin moving forward with support.

Why Do I Feel So Stuck?

It’s something I hear often in therapy as an MBACP (Accred) Registered Counsellor in Greenwich, London and Online:
“I just feel stuck.”
“I don’t know how to move forward.”
“I keep ending up in the same place.”

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Feeling stuck can be frustrating, confusing, and at times exhausting. You might feel like you should be able to change things, but something keeps holding you back.

For some people, feeling stuck is about being unsure what to do next. For others, it’s a sense of going round in circles, repeating the same patterns, whether that’s in relationships, work, or how you feel about yourself.

It can also show up as overthinking, low mood, anxiety, or just a sense that something isn’t quite right.

Often, there isn’t a simple or obvious reason, which can make it even harder to understand.

Why does this happen?

In my experience as a Registered Counsellor offering therapy in Greenwich, London and Online, feeling stuck is rarely about not trying hard enough.

More often, there’s something underneath it.

It might be linked to past experiences, difficult relationships, or feelings that haven’t had space to be fully processed. Sometimes we develop ways of coping that made sense at one time, but no longer serve us.

There can also be fear, of change, of getting it wrong, or even of things being different.

All of this can leave you feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or unable to take that next step.

How therapy can help

Therapy gives you a space to slow things down and begin to make sense of what’s going on for you.

If you’re looking for counselling in Greenwich, London or online therapy across the UK, having a consistent and supportive space can make a meaningful difference.

It’s not about being told what to do. It’s about having the opportunity to talk openly, to feel heard, and to explore things at your own pace.

Therapy can help to:

  • Understand the patterns you’re noticing

  • Explore what might be sitting underneath them

  • Build your awareness and confidence

  • Find ways of moving forward that feel right for you

Sometimes, just being able to say things out loud, and have them really heard, can be the start of things shifting.

Taking that first step

Reaching out for therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’re used to dealing with things on your own.

Whether you’re considering counselling in Greenwich, London or online therapy, you don’t need to have everything figured out. You don’t need the “right words.”

You just need a place to start.

Feeling stuck doesn’t mean you’re failing. Often, it means something needs attention, understanding, or care.

With the right support, things can begin to feel clearer, and change becomes possible.
